Brian Hughes blog 18/03/2023 – Cheltenham was a great spectacle

Cheltenham was a great spectacle.

Constitution Hill looked like a machine in the Champion Hurdle on Tuesday. He’s obviously been expertly trained, and I thought Nico de Boinville gave him a great ride.

It was fitting for Honeysuckle to bow out with a win. She’s had a fantastic career, winning at four Cheltenham Festivals, and has clearly been an exceptional mare. She’s got nothing more to prove and can go off a become a broodmare now. These good horses put a lot into a race and hopefully now she can breed a few foals and have an easier time.

Newcastle, Saturday 18th

Bet Here

I’m up at Newcastle for seven rides on Saturday, and the best of them would probably be March Wind (5:07pm), who I ride for Sandy Thomson in the bumper. He was second the last day at Wetherby to a filly of Archie Watson’s, and, if coming on for that run, he’d have a nice chance.

Sleeping Satellite (1:40pm) runs in the opening novice hurdle. He’s a point winner, a bumper winner and won well over hurdles the last day at Carlisle. He faces only three rivals in here and it looks like we’ve got Ann Hamilton’s Dare To Shout to beat. Hopefully he’s in with a good chance.

I’m on Greyville (3:25pm) in the 2m7f handicap chase for Micky Hammond. He’s been second the last twice, both times at Market Rasen. He’s been running well so you’d like to think he’d be up to winning a race of this nature.
