Liverpool vs Wolves Predictions, Betting Tips And Match Preview 22/05/22

Liverpool welcome Wolves to Anfield for their final Premier League game of the season on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds come into this with their eyes on the Premier League title. Although they’re relying on a favour from Aston Villa, all they can do here is win.

Liverpool’s home form is the best in the division. Up to this point, they remain the only Premier League team not to lose a home game this season. They’ll be keen to secure that record here against Wolves.

They’re fully expected to do just that and are one of the in form teams in the league. Jurgen Klopp’s men are on a 17-game unbeaten run in all competitions.

When you consider that they’ve played every possible game this season, and reached every final, that’s very impressive. One thing’s for sure, it will worry Wolves fans.

The midlands club don’t have anything to play for coming to Merseyside this weekend. Bruno Lage’s men lost the chance to challenge for a European place with their recent results.

In fact, Wolves have won just three of their last ten in the league. All three of those wins came against teams in the bottom half of the table.

Up until the end of February, Wolves’ away form was pretty good. However, their last six games on the road have returned just one win, with four defeats and one draw.

They’ll need to significantly improve on that form to get anything from this. However, that seems unlikely.

Below, we’ll preview this Premier League fixture and provide our predictions, the team news, our recommended bets and more…

Jurgen Klopp is eyeing the Premier League title…

Liverpool vs Wolves Predictions

With so much on the line for the home side, a Liverpool win is expected. The stats will heavily support that assertion also, so we’ll run through the reasons here.

In order to win the Premier League title this season, Liverpool need to win here. They also need Man City to lose or draw. However, Klopp will have his players focused on what they can control come Sunday.

The German even made wholesale changes to his side for their midweek clash with Southampton. Many were under the impression that the team selection meant Liverpool were giving up on the title.

That couldn’t be further from the truth. Liverpool’s ‘second XI’, if you can call it that, came back from a goal behind to beat Saints 2-1.

Three points on the south coast means the Reds can now eye up the title. The dream of an historic quadruple is still very much alive heading into the final game of the season.

Being able to rest so many key players against Southampton could also prove to be pivotal for the hosts. They can now field their strongest possible side for this game.

That’s bad news for Wolves, who will be keen not to end the season with a crushing defeat. However, with Liverpool very much in the ascendancy, they may not get much of a say.

Expect the Reds to put on a show at Anfield and give their fans the perfect season send off. A big win would also be a good confidence booster heading into next weekend’s Champions League Final

Wolves will be looking to cause an upset…

Liverpool vs Wolves Head to Head

The recent head to head record between these doesn’t offer much encouragement for Wolves. Liverpool have won each of the last five meetings, with the Reds scoring nine and Wolves netting just once.

Liverpool won the earliest of those games 1-0 back in December 2019. They’ve also won the two most recent meetings by the same scoreline in March and December 2021.

It took a 94th minute Divock Origi goal to secure the three points last time for the Reds. They’ll be hoping not to leave it so late this time around.

A lot of the clashes between these clubs have been quite competitive of late. The 2-1 Liverpool win in January 2020 is another example of that. The game ebbed and flowed and it was Firmino who came up with an 84th minute goal to win it.

This is the first meeting at Anfield between these since December 2020. The Reds will be hoping to replicate the resounding 4-1 win that resulted that day.

Liverpool Team News – W D W D W

There’s no new injury news to report on the Liverpool front. Both Mo Salah and Virgil Van Dijk were brought off in the FA Cup Final win. Both are expected to feature in some capacity here.

One thing is for certain, Alisson will retain his place in goal for the hosts. Virgil Van Dijk could start the game here and is likely to be partnered by Joel Matip.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson are expected to come back into their wingback roles. Both were rested in midweek, presumably for this game.

With Fabinho expected to be out until the Champions League Final, Jordan Henderson could deputise. He is likely to be partnered by Thiago and Naby Keita in midfield.

Sadio Mane and Luis Diaz are expected to start up front for the home side. If Mo Salah is passed fit for this, he could get the nod to complete the forward line.

Bruno Lage is expected to go with the same starting XI that played against Man City here. Our Liverpool vs Wolves predictions expect Jose Sa to keep his place in goal for the visitors.

Conor Coady will captain the side as usual. He could be joined by Willy Boly and Jonny in a defensive trio.

Going three at the back will allow Wolves to pack the midfield. Leander Dendoncker is expected to anchor the midfield. He will be partnered by Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho.

Chiquinho can provide some attacking width on the right side of midfield. Rayan Ait Nouri is likely to start on the left side for the visitors.

Raul Jimenez hasn’t scored for Wolves since March. The Mexican is still expected to start here and could be partnered by Pedro Neto. The pace of the Portuguese striker could cause Liverpool problems.

Liverpool vs Wolves Betting Tips

It won’t come as a surprise to see the hosts installed as heavy favourites for this. The traders have the Reds priced up at 2/13 in our Liverpool vs Wolves match bets

There hasn’t been a draw between these teams since 2010. If you think this one will end all square, you can back it at a big 6/1.

A Wolves win seems just as unlikely. Anything can happen in football though and Wolves are priced at a huge 14/1 to take the three points.

A home win looks inevitable here. Liverpool need to do everything they can to put pressure on Man City. The match odds aren’t particularly tempting though, so we’ll try to find you some value.
