Diego Pacheco vs Steven Nelson Predictions
Fight prediction: Diego Pacheco via decision
Steven Nelson, with a record of 20-0, is a seasoned veteran with a reputation for explosive knockout power. His aggressive style makes him a problem for any opponent, and his ability to get inside his opponent’s guard is superb. However, he now faces a fighter in his ascendancy and is arguably the toughest of his career. Both fighters come in with pedigree, but Pacheco’s ceiling has to be considered higher.
Diego Pacheco has established himself as one of the biggest and brightest prospects in the middleweight division at 23 years old. The undefeated American carries an intimidating figure and shows remarkable skill and composure. He looks set for a title shot in the not-too-distant future and can stamp his ticket there in this fight against a wily, yet skilled, veteran. This is one of the toughest fights of his career so far, but our boxing prediction is for Pacheco to defeat Nelson in Las Vegas.
Pacheco’s biggest asset heading into this fight is his power. The young fighter boasts 18 KO victories in his 22 fights, ending the majority of his fights decisively. He proved just how valuable an asset that is in his last fight. Pacheco was down on all three scorecards in the sixth round of his title bout with Maciej Sulęcki. However, the American unleashed a vicious body punch, sending Sulecki down with the Pole unable to answer the count. Pacheco can end fights whenever he pleases and has pulled fights from the jaws of defeat with his power punches.
Nelson will try to pressure Pacheco and push the pace in the fight. He is a relentless fighter and will not give Pacheco time to breathe. This can be a dangerous tactic, but probably one he will have to employ in this fight as he gives up considerable reach. He can pour it on the younger fighter if he smells blood. However, this can play in Pacheco’s favour. Nelson’s aggression leaves him open to counters, especially dangerous against a fighter with range and precision. If Pacheco can stay disciplined and avoid getting dragged into brawls, he can make Nelson pay for his eagerness.
Pacheco will fight behind a strong jab to beat Nelson to the punch and control the pace. His reach advantage swings this fight majorly in his favour. He can frustrate Nelson and score rounds before he decides to unload and punish his opponent. His movement and defence must be sound to evade the heavy artillery Nelson also boasts.
Nelson will need to pressure Pacheco to close the distance and land his trademark power shots. He has to force his opponent into exchanges and create chaos. However, he will struggle to disrupt Pacheco’s rhythm. Nelson has excellent conditioning, and the later rounds could swing in his favour, but Pacheco may not even give him the chance to get that far.
Fight Outcome
Ultimately, Pacheco’s reach and youth give him the edge in this fight. There are too many variables at play that will allow him to dictate the pace of this fight. His jab will be a huge deciding factor. By fighting behind it, he will keep Nelson at bay and size him up before throwing big power punches and utilising smart bodywork.
Nelson cannot be underestimated. You do not go 20 fights undefeated without being a highly skilled fighter and his power cannot be ignored. However, Pacheco is simply more powerful. He has also proven he can swing fights that he is losing, showing he is never truly out of a competition. Nelson is a superb fighter, but Pacheco’s time is now.
Diego Pacheco vs Steven Nelson Betting Tips
Diego Pacheco is the odds-on favourite for this fight. Despite the age difference, there is no real experience advantage, with Pacheco actually boasting more bouts. A bet on Pacheco is worth 1/4 with our online bookmaker. However, there isn’t enough value in that bet for us. A €10 stake returns just €2.50. The fact that Nelson is undefeated also leaves too much room for an upset.
Steven Nelson is worth 5/2 for anyone betting on boxing. It is important to remember that, despite his underdog status, Nelson is an undefeated fighter. We are backing Pacheco, but there is no doubting Nelson’s pedigree. This will be the toughest fight of the youngster’s career. A €10 stake on Nelson returns €25.
Method of Victory
Both men are heavy hitters, but neither has been knocked out in their careers. We are leaning towards a bet on Diego Pacheco to win by decision, which is worth 11/10. Both fighters fought to a decision in their recent fights. We think Pacheco can do enough to get the nod from the judges this time.
A bet on a knockout victory is risky, with neither fighter having their chins tested, but it is far from out of the question. Both men carry a lot of power behind their punches, but Pacheco looks more like a knockout artist with an 81.82% knockout rate. You can back the younger fighter to win by knockout at our online sports betting site.
Knockdowns
We are more confident of a knockdown than a knockout. Both men are facing opponents with more power than their previous foes. However, we are backing Pacheco to land a knockdown. He showed in his last fight he could drop heavy punches to the body, giving him multiple avenues to knock his opponent down. A bet on Pacheco to land a knockdown is worth 6/4. Alternatively, you can bet on Nelson to land one at 3/1. You can also bet on either fighter to be knocked down at 17/20.
