Lawrence Okolie vs Kevin Lerena Preview
British favourite Lawrence Okolie will fight South Africa’s Kevin Lerena at Wembley Stadium this weekend. This tantalising clash will take place immediately before Usyk vs Dubois. The event takes place in London on Saturday, July 19th, and the stakes are high.
Okolie’s WBC Silver Heavyweight title is on the line against the WBC Bridgerweight champion. The Englishman is the favourite, but many experts believe the grizzled Lerena can spring an upset. Don’t take your eyes off this one!
Lawrence Okolie vs Kevin Lerena Predictions
Predicted Outcome – Lawrence Okolie by KO/TKO
There isn’t a lot to separate these men on paper, but we believe Okolie is a justifiable favourite. It’s one of the biggest events of his life. He is already the official WBC heavyweight title challenger and knows that a win could get him that coveted shot at the real belt. This is a massive motivation and could stir him into the best performance of his career. Our best boxing predictions suggest Okolie will win this fight.
He’s also fighting in front of his home crowd. This is a big British event, and it’s likely that there will be a rowdy audience present. This should further stimulate him, and it’s possible the setting will overawe South Africa’s Lerena. These are external factors, but they could be huge in this boxing match.
Meanwhile, Lerena may struggle to cope with Okolie’s style. ‘The Octopus’ has that nickname for a reason. He has a massive reach advantage and fights very effectively behind his jab. Expect him to use his length to keep Lerena at bay. We also think Lerena will try to get inside and make this a gritty, nasty affair. He must put pressure on Okolie because otherwise he’s likely to lose this fight on points.
We believe that Okolie will likely bank the early rounds against his challenger. This will leave Lerena chasing the fight and could force him to take more chances. Fatigue could play a part because he’s moving up from Bridgerweight and will add extra bulk. It’s also possible that he may expose himself to more counters as he takes more risks. Okolie’s length and height are confusing for opponents to deal with. There’s a chance this fight will be a technical stinker if Lerena can’t find his range quickly.
Don’t underestimate either of these men’s finishing power. Okolie’s most recent victories both came by early knockouts. We predict a KO will happen again against Lerena. It’s easy to understand his game plan, but that doesn’t mean it will be simple to nullify it. Lerena’s best chance is to start fast and drop Okolie early. ‘The KO Kid’ attempted this against Daniel Dubois with outstanding early success.
Okolie must mind his P’s and Q’s because he knows an onslaught is coming. We’ve seen him hit the canvas before and wilt in the defeat against Chris Billam-Smith in 2023. He rebounded from that chastening result and appears to be more mature. However, some questions about his mentality remain, so Lerena must attempt to expose them.
Lawrence Okolie vs Kevin Lerena Fight Outcome
Kevin Lerena is a tough boxer with a very functional style. He is excellent at the basics and has a never-say-die attitude. However, we don’t think he’s on Okolie’s level, and that’s why we’re comfortable picking the Briton to win this one. Okolie’s reach will be the defining factor in this bout and is likely to see him over the line.

We believe that Okolie will win this match outright. A knockout is most likely to occur between rounds 10 and 12. We’re basing this on his recent record. It will feel like death by a thousand cuts for Lerena, who will eat his jab all night. If he survives through sheer grit and toughness, he’s going to lose a points decision. Lerena must enter the pocket, or ‘The Sauce’ will pepper him all night. This will expose him to Okolie’s savage right hand, and that won’t end well.
Lawrence Okolie vs Kevin Lerena Betting Tips
- Total Rounds – Over 9.5: Okolie is going to fight off the end of his jab because it would be foolish to attempt anything different. But this also means that it’s more likely that this will be a long fight. We already said that we believe a finish will come between rounds 10 and 12. Betting on this fight to pass 9.5 rounds at 8/11 feels like a good option. A successful €10 stake would make €7.27 and is a good option for anyone betting on the over/under.
- Fight Outcome – Lawrence Okolie by KO/TKO/DQ: Betting on Okolie to win feels like the smart option ahead of this WBC bout. But it’s only 2/5 for him to win outright on our online betting site. That’s why picking the method of victory is a good option. It wouldn’t shock us if this went to a decision, but we think Okolie can snatch a KO win. It’s even for him to achieve this, so it’s very tempting!
- Round the Fight Will End (7/12): We’re expecting a late finish. Betting on the fight to end between rounds 7 and 12 without selecting a winner is potentially very profitable. A €10 wager at 9/5 would yield €18 if successful. It’s also safer if Lerena springs a surprise!

Lawrence Okolie’s Recent Form
This will be Okolie’s first fight this year since he fought Hussein Muhammad in December. He moved up to heavyweight and won by first-round KO. There’s no doubt that Lerena represents a massive jump in class. Before this, Okolie secured the WBC Bridgerweight title when he defeated Lukasz Rozanski in the first round last May. Those results provided a massive confidence boost after a shock defeat against Chris Billam-Smith in May 2023. This feels like Okolie’s first real test since that win.
