Brian Hughes: Carlisle, Saturday

BET HERE

The drop back in trip for Grey Skies (2:30pm) won’t be a problem. The ground will be testing enough and Carlise is a stiff track, so that should play to his strength. Off his mark of 117, he should take all the beating. Cornerstone Lad remains dangerously handicapped but appears to be getting on a bit now. Our lad is in good form at home and must have a big chance.

Panhandle Slim (3:05pm) was probably a bit unlucky the last time at Bangor. He didn’t get the best position in the race and stayed on well. It looks an open race and I think he’ll be there or thereabouts.

Geryville (3:40pm) has the blinkers back on. I feel like he’s been needing them for a while, so he should go well with them reapplied. Then I’ve gotEnemy At The Gate (4:15pm) and Great Ballinboris (4:50pm), who both have a right to get involved, but I’d say Masked Crusader (5:25pm), along with Grey Skies, is one of my best chances on the card. He’s won at the track before and only just got beat the last day, so I think he’s got every chance.

Market Rasen, Sunday:

Three nice rides, kicking off with Pitwood Road (2:44pm). She’s a point-to-point and bumper winner, and I was a bit frustrated she was only second last time at Bangor. I really thought we could have won that day if we’d been a bit more positive with her. She jumps and stays really well, so I’ll be looking to make good use of that.

The ground was a bit heavy for Grain d’Oudairies (4:29pm) the other day at Bangor, so he didn’t run, and this should suit him perfectly. He’s a lovely big horse who’s bred to jump fences and definitely looks like one to follow in these sort of chases.

Lastly, we’ve been waiting for the ground to dry out for Chantilly Moon (5:39pm). This guy’s been working really well at home and I think he should take a good step forward.
