Golden Sub: Your Bet Rolls On!

Every football fan knows the feeling. You back a striker to score, he’s been lively all first half, and then the board goes up on 60 minutes with his number on it. Until now, that was usually the end of your bet. Golden Sub changes that on selected matches and markets.

With Novibet’s Golden Sub, a substitution no longer ends your player bet: the player who comes on takes over your selection, and your bet rolls on.

Novibet Blog tells you everything you need to know about this great feature that keeps your bet alive until the referee blows the last whistle.

What is Golden Sub and how does it work?

Golden Sub is a feature on selected football matches that protects player market bets against substitutions. Look for the “Golden Sub” label on a player market. If the player you backed is substituted before your bet is won, the official substitute who replaces him carries on your bet for the rest of the match.

Using it is simple:

  1. Find a football match and player market marked with “Golden Sub”.
  2. Place your bet on the player you fancy, before kick-off or in-play.
  3. If your player is taken off before your bet lands, the official replacement takes his place in your bet.
  4. Your bet is settled on what your original player did plus what his substitute does after coming on.

A quick example

You back a midfielder to score anytime in a Premier League match marked with Golden Sub. He hasn’t scored when he’s replaced in the 65th minute. In the 80th minute, the player who came on for him finds the net. Your bet is settled as a winner, because the substitute continued your selection.

Which bets qualify?

Golden Sub works across most of the ways you like to bet, as long as the market carries the Golden Sub label.

  • Pre-match and in-play: bets placed before kick-off and during the match both qualify.
  • Bet types: singles, accumulators, system bets and Bet Builder bets are all eligible.
  • Regular time only: only bets placed during the regular 90 minutes count; extra time is excluded.
  • Accumulators and cash out: if you cash out part of an accumulator, the offer still applies to your remaining selections.

What’s not covered?

A few bet types fall outside Golden Sub. These are excluded:

  • Bets that are cancelled and refunded
  • Conflicting or complementary bets
  • Bets that are fully or partially cashed out (except the remaining selections of a partly cashed-out accumulator)
  • Bets on markets or matches without the Golden Sub label

Settlement, winnings and key terms

Golden Sub bets are settled using official data from OPTA, Novibet’s statistics provider, so substitutions and player stats are tracked accurately.

  • Fast payouts: winnings land in your account within a few minutes of the final whistle.
  • No wagering requirements: any winnings are real cash and can be withdrawn straight away.
  • Changes to the offer: if Novibet amends or withdraws Golden Sub, bets you’ve already placed stay under the terms you accepted, unless the new terms are better for you.
  • Disqualification: if a customer is disqualified from the offer, they’re told immediately.
  • Company discretion: Novibet may refuse or withdraw the offer for any customer or group at any time, without affecting bets already placed.

Frequently asked questions

Golden Sub is a feature on selected football matches. If you bet on a player market marked “Golden Sub” and your player is substituted before your bet is won, the player who replaces him continues your bet.

How do I know if a bet qualifies for Golden Sub?

Qualifying matches and player markets are marked with the “Golden Sub” label. If you don’t see the label, the market isn’t covered.

Does my bet continue with any substitute?

No. It continues only with the official substitute who comes on in place of the player you backed.

Can I use Golden Sub on in-play bets?

Yes. Bets placed before kick-off and during the match both qualify, as long as they’re placed in regular time.

Does Golden Sub cover extra time?

No. Only bets placed during regular time qualify; extra time is excluded.

Which bet types can I use?

Singles, accumulators, system bets and Bet Builder bets are all eligible on Golden Sub markets.

What if I cash out?

Fully or partially cashed-out bets are excluded. In an accumulator, cashing out part of the bet doesn’t affect the offer on your remaining selections.

How is my bet settled?

Settlement uses official data from OPTA. Your bet wins if your original player and his official substitute, between them, achieve what you bet on, such as scoring in the match.

When will I get my winnings, and are there wagering requirements?

Winnings are credited within a few minutes of the match ending. They have no wagering requirements and can be withdrawn immediately.
