10. Danny Blanchflower

Danny Blanchflower is one of the most important players in Tottenham Hotspur’s history and the captain of one of the greatest teams the club has ever produced. The Northern Irishman joined Spurs from Aston Villa in 1954 and quickly established himself as a leader. He spent 10 years at White Hart Lane, making 337 appearances and helping Tottenham achieve some of the biggest successes in their history.

Blanchflower was an intelligent and technically gifted midfielder who could control the tempo of a match. His passing, vision and ability to read the game made him the perfect captain, while his leadership qualities were equally important. He famously believed football should be played with style, a philosophy that became central to Tottenham’s identity.

Blanchflower captained Spurs to the First Division title and FA Cup in 1960/61, making Tottenham the first English club to complete the league and FA Cup double in the 20th century. He then led the club to another FA Cup and European Cup Winners’ Cup glory in 1963. His influence makes him one of Tottenham’s greatest-ever players.

9. Paul Gascoigne

Paul Gascoigne may have spent only three seasons with Tottenham, but his impact at White Hart Lane was enormous. The midfielder joined Spurs from Newcastle United in 1988 and quickly became one of the most exciting young players in English football. His performances for Tottenham and England turned him into a national superstar and one of the most recognisable footballers of his generation.

Gazza possessed an extraordinary combination of technical ability, strength, creativity and unpredictability. He could beat defenders with his dribbling, pick out teammates with exceptional passes or produce spectacular goals from distance. His personality and willingness to entertain made him a huge favourite with supporters, while his performances demonstrated that he could compete with the very best.

His finest moment with Spurs came in the 1991 FA Cup semi-final against Arsenal, when Gascoigne scored one of the competition’s most memorable free kicks. Although Tottenham lost the final, his performances cemented his status as a club icon. His short spell still earns him a place among Spurs’ all-time greats.

8. Ledley King

Ledley King is one of the best centre-backs to ever play for Tottenham and a player whose career was defined by extraordinary talent and loyalty. The academy graduate spent his entire professional career with Spurs, making 323 appearances between 1999 and 2012. Despite persistent knee problems restricting his playing time, King established himself as one of the Premier League’s finest centre-backs.

King’s natural ability was remarkable. He possessed exceptional pace, strength and positional awareness, allowing him to defend effectively without relying on reckless challenges. His reading of the game was particularly impressive, while his composure on the ball allowed him to start attacks from defence. He was also a threat from set pieces, scoring 14 Premier League goals.

King became Tottenham captain and played a crucial role as the club returned to the Champions League under Harry Redknapp. His career was ultimately cut short by chronic knee problems, but he remained incredibly loyal to Spurs and never played for another club. His quality, leadership, and commitment make him one of the most respected players in Tottenham’s modern history.

7. Gary Mabbutt

Gary Mabbutt spent almost two decades at Tottenham and became one of the club’s most dependable defenders. The versatile Englishman joined Spurs from Bristol Rovers in 1982 and remained at White Hart Lane until his retirement in 1998. He eventually became club captain and was a respected leader both on and off the pitch.

Mabbutt’s greatest achievement came in 1991 when he captained Tottenham to FA Cup glory against Nottingham Forest. He also helped the club win the UEFA Cup in 1984 and played an important role in Spurs’ successful teams in the 80s. His longevity and leadership mean he is one of the greatest players in Tottenham’s history.

6. Luka Modric

Luka Modric is arguably the most technically gifted midfielder to ever play for Tottenham Hotspur. The Croatian joined Spurs from Dinamo Zagreb in 2008 and quickly established himself as one of the Premier League’s finest midfielders. Although he spent only four seasons in North London, his performances attracted the attention of Real Madrid, where he went on to become a global superstar.

Modric’s game was built around intelligence, technique and exceptional passing ability. His close control allowed him to escape pressure, while his vision and range of passing enabled him to dictate games from midfield. He could carry the ball forward, create chances and control the tempo, making him one of the most complete midfielders of his era.

Modric played 160 games for Tottenham and helped the club reach the Champions League quarter-finals in 2011. Although he left without major silverware, his individual quality was undeniable. He later won multiple Champions League titles and the Ballon d’Or with Real Madrid, showing just how exceptional the player Spurs had developed actually was. His short but brilliant spell makes him a clear choice for this list.

5. Gareth Bale

Gareth Bale developed from a promising young full-back into one of the most devastating attacking players in world football during his time at Tottenham. The Welshman joined Spurs from Southampton in 2007 and initially struggled to establish himself, going through a long period without winning a Premier League match. Everything changed when Harry Redknapp moved him further forward. He quickly became one of the best right wingers in the world.

Bale’s combination of extraordinary pace, power, and technical ability made him almost impossible to contain at his peak. He could beat defenders one-on-one, deliver dangerous crosses or cut inside and unleash powerful shots from distance. His transformation into a world-class winger culminated in the 2012/13 season, when he scored 26 goals in all competitions and was named PFA Players’ Player of the Year.

Bale’s greatest Spurs performances came in the Champions League, particularly against Inter Milan in 2010 when he famously terrorised Maicon at San Siro. He scored 55 goals in 203 appearances for Tottenham before joining Real Madrid for a then-world-record fee. He later returned on loan, scoring 16 goals in 34 appearances. Although his trophy haul at Spurs was limited, his individual performances were among the best ever produced by a Tottenham player.

4. Heung Min-Son

Heung Min-Son has become one of the most beloved players in Tottenham’s modern history and one of the greatest Asian footballers ever to play in the Premier League. The South Korean joined Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 and initially took time to adapt to English football. He soon established himself as one of the team’s most important attacking players.

Son combines blistering pace with exceptional movement, close control and an outstanding ability to finish with either foot. His intelligence allows him to exploit space behind defenders, while his chemistry with Harry Kane produced one of the most productive attacking partnerships in Premier League history. Son is also renowned for scoring spectacular goals, including his famous solo effort against Burnley in 2019.

Son has scored more than 150 goals for Tottenham and became the first Asian player to win the Premier League Golden Boot after finishing the 2021/22 season with 23 goals. He has also captained the club and became an enormous global ambassador for Tottenham. His goals, assists, and influence meant he has to feature in any list celebrating the best Tottenham Hotspur players.

3. Glenn Hoddle

Glenn Hoddle is widely regarded as one of the most naturally gifted English footballers. The academy graduate made his first-team debut in 1975 and quickly became the creative heart of the Spurs midfield. Hoddle spent more than a decade with the club, making 490 appearances and scoring 110 goals. His performances also earned him 53 England caps, establishing him as one of the finest English midfielders of his generation.

Hoddle’s greatest strength was his extraordinary technical ability. His passing range and vision allowed him to create chances that few other players could see, while his ability to strike the ball from distance made him a goal-scoring threat. He could dictate the tempo from midfield, glide past opponents, and produce moments of individual brilliance.

Hoddle helped Tottenham win the FA Cup in 1981 and 1982, as well as the UEFA Cup in 1984. He was twice named PFA Players’ Player of the Year and was widely admired by his peers for his exceptional ability. Although he played in an era before the modern Premier League, his influence on Tottenham’s style and individual brilliance make him a worthy member of the top three.

2. Jimmy Greaves

Jimmy Greaves is one of the greatest goalscorers English football has ever produced and Tottenham’s second-highest goalscorer of all time. The striker joined Spurs from Chelsea in 1961 and immediately became one of the most prolific forwards in the country. He spent nine seasons with Tottenham, scoring an incredible 266 goals in 379 appearances and establishing himself as a club legend.

Greaves possessed a natural goalscoring instinct that made finishing appear effortless. He had exceptional movement, composure, and technique, allowing him to find space inside the penalty area and consistently beat opposing goalkeepers. Despite being a relatively small striker, his intelligence and timing made him incredibly difficult for defenders to contain. He could finish with either foot and was equally dangerous from close range or distance.

Greaves won the FA Cup with Tottenham in 1962 and 1967 and played a key role in the club’s 1963 European Cup Winners’ Cup triumph. His 220 league goals for Spurs remain a remarkable record, while he also scored 44 goals for England. Greaves’ extraordinary consistency, trophy-winning contribution, and sheer volume of goals should make him the number 1 Spurs player of all time. However, there is one man who has a stronger claim to the top spot.

1. Harry Kane

Harry Kane tops the list of the best Spurs players of all time. The England captain is Tottenham’s all-time top scorer, netting 213 league goals during his time in North London. Those performances also place him in our list of best Premier League players of all time

Kane came through the academy at White Hart Lane, but it wasn’t plain sailing into the first team. Several loans saw little success, and at 20, he looked to be at a crossroads. That was until a lack of depth saw Tim Sherwood recall him from a loan at Leicester City and thrust him into the first team, much to the chagrin of many fans. However, Spurs never looked back.

Kane quickly established himself as one of the most complete strikers in world football. His finishing was exceptional, but his game offered much more than goals. He combined his physical strength and intelligent movement with outstanding link-up play and passing, regularly dropping deep to create chances for teammates. His partnership with Son Heung-min became one of the most prolific in Premier League history. Kane’s ability to score from distance, finish with either foot and dominate in the air made him incredibly difficult to defend.

Kane won the Premier League Golden Boot three times and finished his Tottenham career with 280 goals in all competitions. He also became the club’s record Premier League goalscorer and led Spurs to their highest-ever Premier League finish in 2016/17. Although he never lifted a major trophy with Tottenham, his individual performances and longevity put him comfortably ahead of the competition. Kane’s influence on the club and his status as one of the greatest strikers of his generation make him the clear number one on our list of the best Tottenham players of all time.
