The hosts fought back with Gesi’s second try, but Ulster held firm, despite conceding a yellow card. Zebre searched for a late score, but Ulster closed out the game, securing a hard-fought win.
Ulster last played in ERCC action on January 17th against the Exeter Chiefs at Kingspan Stadium. The Ulstermen decimated their opponents, securing a 52-24 victory. The Chiefs started strong, with Paul Brown-Bampoe scoring early and Ross Vintcent adding a solo try to make it 12-0. Ulster quickly responded, with Cormac Izuchukwu and Dave McCann scoring close-range tries to level the game at 12-12. After a back-and-forth first half, which saw Rus Tuima and Nick Timoney exchange tries, the teams went into the break level.
In the second half, Ulster came out firing, with Herring scoring a bonus-point try after a line-out maul. Ulster then surged ahead with tries from Izuchukwu, Ben Carson, and McCann in a quick eight-minute burst, putting them 35 points ahead.
