England v Australia Betting Tips
Selections suggested by our editorial team
England to win (63%)
Our prediction leans towards England, and our model gives them a 63% chance on home soil. They come in on two straight wins, 31-24 in Argentina and 73-8 against Fiji. Australia have shipped 93 points across back-to-back defeats by New Zealand. That gap in form is hard to look past.
Over 40.5 points (100%)
This is the cleanest number on the page. Every one of the six recent matches across both sides cleared 40.5 points, and the quietest of them still produced 55. Australia are conceding 43.7 a game and our model projects 60 in total. The line gives you a big cushion.
England -9.5 (50%)
On our numbers this is a coin flip. Our model has England winning by 10, so the 9.5 line sits right on top of the projected margin, and England need to win by 10 or more. Their recent wins range from seven points in Argentina to 65 against Fiji, which is why we rate it only 2/5.

England and Australia Match Preview
One of our best rugby predictions this week is for England to win their Nations Championship opener against Australia in convincing fashion. Our model has them winning 35-25, which works out at a 63% chance of an England win against 36% for Australia. England arrive after back-to-back wins against Argentina and Fiji, scoring a whopping 73 points against the latter. Meanwhile, Australia enter following a duo of heavy defeats to New Zealand, conceding 93 points and scoring just 40 across both games.
That defensive record sums up our prediction here. Australia are leaking 43.7 points a game across their last three, against 25.7 for England. That has the Wallabies 49 points in the red over that run compared to 48 to the good for England. England are holding up their end of the bargain on both sides of the ball, which leaves them the obvious choice here for anyone betting on rugby.
Australia cannot be written off, and their record on the road isn’t as bad as their form suggests, with defeat in just one of their previous four away tests. Nations Championship odds have Australia down at 12/5. However, their 25-7 defeat to England in last year’s internationals, paired with those results against New Zealand, shows that their firepower is seriously lacking when facing top test sides.
Betting on the over/under is where we are most comfortable here. All six recent matches across both sides went over 40.5 points, and every one of them went over 50.5 as well. Our model predicts a total of 60 points. The over/under line of 57.5 gives us room there, and Australia’s leaky defence means England can hold up their end of the bargain. A bet on the over is the best play for this match.
The handicap betting line is set at 9.5, making this a tighter call than the match result might suggest. Our model has England winning by 10 points, building on their seven-point victory over Argentina last time out and the emphatic 65-point win against Fiji before that. England have won by more than seven points in only one of their last five matches, so covering the -9.5 handicap is far from a certainty. However, given the gap between these sides in our overall prediction, we still lean towards England to cover. Sports betting odds of just under evens make it a tempting option.
Live betting could offer some interesting opportunities here, as the opening exchanges are likely to have a big impact on the market. If England move two scores clear in the first 15 minutes, their outright price will shorten and offer less value. At that point, the 9.5 handicap could be the better option, particularly given that Australia have conceded 43 and 50 points in their last two outings.
On the other hand, if Australia make the kind of fast start they produced in their 42-38 win over South Africa, England's betting odds are likely to drift. If a team our model gives a 63% chance of winning becomes available at a longer price after a slow start, that could present a value opportunity.

England v Australia Frequently Asked Questions
England v Australia kicks off on Sunday 8 November 2026 at 15:10 (Ireland Time) at Twickenham Stadium, in round 4 of the Nations Championship.
The fixture is live on Virgin Media One.
Our prediction is an England win. Our model makes it 35-25 and gives England a 63% chance against 36% for Australia. England have won their last two, and Australia arrive on the back of two heavy defeats to New Zealand.
We expect plenty. Our model projects 60 points, and all six of the two sides' recent matches cleared 40.5, which is why the over on that line is one of our best bets. Their last two meetings averaged 55.5 points.
