CF Pachuca vs RB Salzburg Predictions
Score prediction: Pachuca 1-2 RB Salzburg
This match is tricky to predict. However, Salzburg get the slight edge due to their European pedigree. The 17-time Austrian Champions are consistently playing against the best teams in the Champions League, though they are often minnows compared to their opponents.
They have shown a tactical flexibility that could prove vital in this fixture and the Club World Cup as a whole. The Red Bulls are the biggest team in Austria and can switch from a dominant, possession-based game in the league to a more compact, defensive style in Europe. They will look to assert dominance with the ball in this game.

Salzburg are excellent at holding onto the ball and spotting passing lanes to stretch defences. That allows their attackers to take advantage of space. Their success in the Austrian Bundesliga has been characterised by their methodical build-up play. This will be essential against a team like Pachuca that depends on fast transitions and individual flashes of genius. Salzburg can thwart Pachuca’s press and lessen the possibility of dangerous counterattacks by holding onto possession.
Salzburg’s compact and disciplined defence rarely allows opponents to take up risky positions. Against Pachuca’s dynamic forwards, their backline’s capacity to sustain shape under pressure and build from the back will be crucial. The Austrian side’s midfielders will also be tasked with controlling key areas and breaking up Pachuca’s attempts to regain possession.
Pachuca were underwhelming in the Clausura this year. They finished in 8th with eight wins, four draws and five losses, before crashing out in the quarterfinals and failing to score a goal against Club America. The seven-time Mexican champions struggle when they can’t dominate the ball. They lack pace in wide areas that would help them on counterattacks. Salomon Rondon is an excellent striker, but is not the kind of centre forward who can create chances for himself. Pachuca must find a way to retain possession if they are to win this game.
If they cannot do that, they must pounce on defensive lapses. Salzburg will throw men forward when in possession and create overloads. Players like Elias Montiel will be important in creating turnovers and starting counterattacks. Rondon is great at hold-up play, and if he can get runners in behind him with a numbers advantage in transitions, Pachuca can punish Salzburg.

Even if the Mexican side holds the ball well, Salzburg can be deadly on the counter. They have plenty of experience in doing just that from their forays into the Champions League. The Red Bulls will be ready for whatever is thrown at them, despite having no experience against Pachuca.
We expect a closely fought game, but Salzburg’s possession dominance and tactical control should see them edge out Pachuca. Their ability to keep the ball and patiently unlock the Mexican side’s defence means our soccer predictions are for a narrow victory for the Austrian side. The Club World Cup schedule means this will be an important three points for either side.
Players to Watch
- Dorgeles Nene (Attacking midfielder, RB Salzburg): Dorgeles Nene is coming off the best season of his young career. The Mali international scored 13 goals in 24 starts in the Austrian Bundesliga. He finished with 24 goals and assists in all competitions. The 22-year-old is popping up on the shortlists of some of the biggest clubs in Europe this summer, and this competition could be an interview for a move. He is capable of unlocking a defence with excellent passing and has a great eye for goal to boot. Expect the number 10 to be at the forefront of Salzburg’s attacking moves in this game.
- Elías Montiel (Defensive midfielder, CF Pachuca): Elías Montiel is one of the best youngsters coming out of Mexico. The 19-year-old was one of Pachuca’s most consistent performers last season, playing beyond his years as a defensive midfielder. His strength in duels and ability to make recoveries are integral to linking Pachuca’s defence and midfield to attacking phases. Despite his position in a double-pivot, Montiel is important in all passages of play. He will be vital in transitioning defence to attack in this game, forcing turnovers and playing quick, intelligent passes to create counterattacking opportunities.
CF Pachuca vs RB Salzburg Betting Tips
- Full-Time Result – RB Salzburg to win: The betting is tight in this game, but Salzburg have the slight edge. We think the Austrian side can leave with three points here. They had a strong league campaign and have a lot of experience playing against far stronger sides. A bet on Salzburg is worth 7/5.
- Over/Under – Over 2.5 goals: Anyone betting on the over/under should back the over here, worth 8/11 with our online sportsbook. This will be a tight game, but there will be opportunities for both teams to score. There were over 2.5 goals in 12 of Pachuca’s 17 regular-season games. Salzburg’s final three fixtures all saw three goals or more.
- Player to score or assist – Dorgeles Nene: Salzburg’s young attacking midfielder has been their biggest threat when going forward this year. He has an expansive finishing range and a great eye for a pass. Anyone betting on the Club World Cup should back the Malian to register a goal or assist.
- Under 2.5 cards: Both of these teams are well-disciplined, particularly Salzburg, which received fewer cards than any other team in the league last season. We do not think this will be a feisty affair and encourage anyone betting on soccer to bet on under 2.5 cards in the game.
CF Pachuca vs RB Salzburg Head-To-Head and Key Stats
Red Bull Salzburg ended their Bundesliga campaign in style with a 4-2 win over Rapid Vienna in the Austrian Klassiker. They secured second place and a UEFA Champions League qualifying spot. Early dominance set the tone, with Oscar Gloukh’s sublime strike and Dorgeles Nene’s composed finish putting Salzburg 2-0 up inside 16 minutes. Radulovic pulled one back after a defensive mishap, but Edmund Baidoo restored the two-goal cushion minutes later.
In the second half, Nene added a fourth with a brilliant chip after Ratkov’s assist, before Guido Burgstaller smashed in a consolation for Rapid in his final professional game. Salzburg held firm despite late pressure, with goalkeeper Alex Schlager making key saves. Favourable results elsewhere meant Salzburg leapfrogged into second, while Sturm Graz retained the title.
Pachuca’s Clausura 2025 campaign came to an end on May 10 with a 2-0 loss to Club América at the Estadio Azteca, sealing a 2-0 aggregate defeat in the quarterfinals. Despite holding América to a 0-0 draw in the first leg, Los Tuzos were undone early. They conceded twice in the first half after Alejandro Zendejas struck in the 16th and 27th minutes. Pachuca were punished for defensive lapses with clinical finishes.
Pachuca’s hopes took a further hit when Oussama Idrissi was sent off just before halftime for a second yellow card. They fought valiantly, nearly pulling one back when a late effort struck the post. América missed a chance to add a third after Rodrigo Aguirre hit the crossbar from the penalty spot. That ended what was a disappointing season for Pachuca in the Clausura.
