Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano Preview

Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano clash on November 15th in a rematch of the greatest female boxing match of all time. The preliminary card begins at 10:30pm UK time. The Bray Bomber will put her undisputed super-lightweight titles on the line for the first time since becoming the second two-weight undisputed women’s champion in history.

Amanda Serrano only narrowly lost a split decision to Taylor in their 2022 meeting. The Puerto Rican is a four-weight world champion and enters this fight on the back of one of her most dominant performances. Can Serrano win world titles in her fifth weight class or will Taylor prove she has her number?

Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano Predictions

Fight outcome: Katie Taylor to win via decision

Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano’s rematch is expected to be another close affair. Taylor has excellent movement and technique while Serrano has heavy hands and pinpoint precision. Both fighters will want to control the ring early on and Taylor has a speed advantage that could help her‌. However, Serrano has the power advantage and if she can land blows early, she can force Taylor back.

This fight will come down to whether Taylor can frustrate Serrano with her footwork and volume. Serrano would have to find gaps in her defence to land heavy, decisive blows. The issue is, Taylor doesn’t make those mistakes. The Irish fighter just edges this fight with her championship pedigree and that tilts the scales in her favour. Our boxing prediction is for Katie Taylor to win in Arlington, Texas.

Serrano will make adjustments in this rematch. She will need to take risks and fight more aggressively, which will play a pivotal role. However, Taylor’s adaptability is exceptional. She can fight behind her jab as she did last time to keep Serrano at bay. With ‘The Real Deal’ expected to be more aggressive in this fight, the undisputed light-welterweight champion’s jab will serve her well and upset her rhythm.

Taylor’s pathway to victory in this fight comes down to speed and footwork. Counter-punching will be a huge difference maker in this fight, and with a more aggressive version of Serrano expected, the Irishwoman will need to be quick and precise with hers. Her perseverance is incredible and she can take a punch like no other competitor in the division. She will feel like she took Serrano’s best in their last fight and will take confidence knowing she came out on top.

‘The Real Deal’ has a clear power advantage with 31 knockout victories in her career. Taylor has just six. The Puerto Rican flew out of the gates early in their last clash and had opened cuts on Taylor’s face by the fifth round. Taylor still had an answer for her and outlasted the challenger to swing the momentum in her favour by the latter rounds.

The conundrum for Serrano will be whether to come out flying and pressure Taylor again to find a power punch earlier or conserve her stamina and rally later on. The danger of the latter is that giving up early and middle rounds to a fighter as skilled as Taylor is a surefire way to sleepwalk into defeat. Serrano has to make changes for this fight, but ‘The Bray Bomber’ may have her number.

Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano Fight Outcome

Amanda Serrano will make adjustments from her first clash with Katie Taylor, but the champion is a boxing chameleon. Taylor will mould her game to how Serrano fights. Her superior stamina could be the deciding factor that edges this fight in her favour. Serrano withered in the final rounds of their last meeting, which handed Taylor the win. Katie’s defence is good enough to carry her if Serrano begins slower and looks for a finish in the latter rounds.

Serrano showed her power in her last fight and overwhelmed Stevie Morgan. She will not be handed that luxury here. Taylor is an expert counter-puncher and her speed and footwork will keep Serrano at bay. She must respect the Real Deal’s power, but her technique can help her avoid big hits.

Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano Betting Tips

Fight Winner

The markets are tight between these fighters, but Katie Taylor edges it as a 4/5 favourite with our online bookmaker. Serrano is a 10/11 underdog. Taylor just about edges it and with next to nothing separating them, we like a bet on the champ to win the rematch. A €5 bet on Katie Taylor to win returns €9, while the same wager on Serrano returns €9.55.

Method of Victory

If Taylor is to win this match, it will be by decision. The Bray Bomber hasn’t won by knockout in over five years and just six of her 23 victories have come by a finish. You can elevate the odds of a Taylor victory to even money by betting on her to win via decision, matching our Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano prediction.

However, we are more interested in the odds for Serrano. While we think Taylor will win the fight, The Real Deal to win by KO/TKO is attractive at 6/1 in the boxing betting markets. She found her power again to win by TKO in her last fight and has a 65.96% career knockout rate. She bloodied Taylor’s nose by round five in their previous fight. If she can do that earlier and throw off Taylor’s breathing in the rematch, then she has a chance of sneaking a KO.

Knockdowns

Taylor’s knockdown history is contentious. Jessica McCaskill knocked her down in their fight in 2017 before she hit the canvas when fighting Chantelle Cameron in her most recent fight. The referee ruled both as slips, but the latter looked like a genuine knockdown. Serrano has plenty more power than Cameron and may fight more aggressively here. We like a bet on over 0.5 knockdowns in the fight, worth 7/2 in the online betting markets

You can elevate those odds by betting on Katie Taylor to be knocked down and win the fight, worth 14/1. Her knockdown against Cameron should have been legitimate, but she bounced back to win by majority decision.

Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano Head-To-Head and Key Stats

Katie Taylor has almost two careers in boxing. The Irishwoman was an exceptional amateur boxer, winning medals all over the world and dominating Europe before winning gold at the Olympic Games in 2012. She made her professional debut at 30 years old and quickly rose up the ranks to claim her first world title at lightweight in her seventh fight, defeating Anahí Ester Sánchez.

Taylor became undisputed champion seven fights later when she beat Delfine Persoon at Madison Square Garden after a gripping climax. She also beat Serrano’s older sister, Cindy, during that run. The Bray Bomber moved up a weight class and won the WBO light-welterweight title, beating Christina Linardatou. She defended her lightweight title against Serrano in April 2022. The fight is considered one of the greatest female boxing matches of all time. A thrilling back and forth went the distance as Serrano dragged Taylor through hot water. The Irishwoman just edged a split decision victory to retain her belts.

She returned to light welterweight to challenge Chantelle Cameron for undisputed gold. A thriller of a bout ended with Taylor’s first career loss, with Cameron narrowly winning by a majority decision. Taylor invoked her rematch clause, clashing with Cameron again in her most recent fight. The Bray Bomber won the rematch, becoming the second female boxer, and the first Irish female boxer, to be an undisputed champion in two weight classes.

Amanda Serrano is in the 15th year of her professional career and is still one of the biggest attractions in women’s boxing. She is the unified featherweight world champion and has won world titles in four different weight classes. She also holds the Guinness World Record for the most boxing world championships won in different weight classes by a female. The Real Deal was a monster at featherweight, before moving up to lightweight to face Taylor in 2022 in a losing effort.

Serrano returned to featherweight after the defeat and settled back in immediately. The Puerto Rican became the undisputed champion for the first time in her career in 2022, beating Sarah Mahfoud by a unanimous decision. She has defended her throne three times since, winning each bout by unanimous decision.

The Real Deal last stepped into the ring in July, clashing with Stevie Morgan after moving to super-lightweight. Despite the American being on a six-fight win streak, Serrano decimated her opponent, making Morgan look like an amateur. She hit Morgan with impunity before the referee stopped the fight in the second round, handing Serrano the TKO victory.

The tale of the tape is virtually identical between these fighters. Serrano stands at 5’5 ½” with a 65 ½” reach while Taylor is 5’5” with a 66” reach. Taylor has lightning-quick footwork and focuses on volume punching over power punches with expert counter-punching. Serrano is a precision puncher with heavy hands and a superior knockout record. Taylor has a 26-1 record with a 26.09% knockout rate and Serrano has a 47-2 record with a 65.96% knockout rate.
