Selections suggested by our editorial team

1Double chance

Liverpool or draw

Liverpool or draw is our strongest play. Our model puts it at 72%, and Liverpool are unbeaten away in the league this season with three wins from four. Palace have lost three of four at home, so we only need the visitors to avoid defeat against a side conceding 2.5 goals per home game.

Confidence
4 of 5
2Handicap

Crystal Palace +2

Crystal Palace +2 on the three-way line wins if Palace win, draw or lose by one. A two-goal Liverpool win is the handicap draw, so that loses, as does anything bigger. Liverpool have won by two or more in just two of the last ten meetings, and our likeliest score is 0-1.

Confidence
3 of 5
3Goals

Under 3.5 goals

Under 3.5 goals leans on Liverpool's control rather than Palace's chaos. Only 22% of Liverpool's matches have gone over 3.5 goals, against 56% of Palace's, and eight of the last ten meetings stayed under the line. With Liverpool conceding 0.75 per away game, four goals needs Palace to play well above themselves.

The analysis

Crystal Palace and Liverpool Match Preview

We lean towards Liverpool in our Premier League predictions this week. Our model gives Liverpool a 47% chance of winning compared to 28% for Crystal Palace and 25% for the draw. Anyone betting on this fixture will know this is a great time to play the Reds, but we don't think the hosts will capitalise on the opportunity.

Palace have been poor so far this season, and Selhurst Park is proving far from the fortress it was in recent years. The Eagles have lost three of their four home league games this season, averaging 2.5 goals conceded per match. Palace have failed to make the home advantage count, struggling to keep the ball with an average of 42% possession. That is where Liverpool can hurt them, with the Reds averaging 54% by the same metric.

However,  Premier League betting on Liverpool has been inconsistent this season. They travel to South London on the back of two straight defeats, losing 3-2 away to Fenerbahce in the Champions League midweek after a 1-0 home defeat to Arsenal last weekend. Those are not easy fixtures, though, and the Reds’ away form is notable leading into this. Liverpool are unbeaten in four league away games, with three wins and 0.75 goals conceded per match. Crystal Palace have been one of the poorest teams in the league so far, and this looks like a perfect match for Liverpool to bounce back.

We do not expect them to blow Palace away, though. That brings in handicap betting. Palace +2 on a three-way line covers a Palace win, a draw, or a home loss by one goal. History says these games are usually tight. Liverpool have won by two goals or more in only two of the last ten meetings. Liverpool will want a professional performance to stop the rot, and a one-goal margin aligns with our 0-1 scoreline prediction.

The over/under betting market also points towards a relatively low-scoring contest. Although 56% of Palace's matches have gone over 3.5 goals, that figure drops to just 22% for Liverpool. What's more, eight of the last ten meetings between these sides have stayed under 3.5 goals. Liverpool should have enough possession to dictate the tempo, while Palace's recent attacking returns offer little reason to expect a high-scoring performance. The Eagles have managed just 0.8 goals per game across their last five matches, making the Under an appealing option at the available betting odds.

There could also be opportunities to react as the match develops through in-play betting. Palace have conceded five of their 21 league goals in the opening 15 minutes, so an early Liverpool goal could quickly shorten the visitors' price. At that point, chasing Liverpool or a draw may offer limited value, while Palace +2 could become an alternative. If the hosts survive the opening spell and Liverpool's odds drift, backing the Reds or a draw at a higher price may be more attractive through our online bookmaker.

A level score at half-time would also be worth watching: Palace have conceded six goals between the 46th and 60th minutes, while Liverpool have scored three of their 11 league goals in that same period. That could be the ideal window to back the visitors to find a breakthrough.
