It’s the start of a new National Football League season and Tyrone’s first game is against Roscommon. This is the opening round of fixtures in the NFL but the last match of the week for Roinn One. The match will take place at O’Neills Healy Park on Sunday, January 28, at 3:45 pm. Both teams will be anxious heading into the new season as some big games are coming up.
In the last campaign, there was not much to split the two clubs. Roscommon and Tyrone finished on eight points, with the same number of victories and defeats. The Rossies dominated that match and it finished 0-13 to 2-25. Roscommon became six-time winners of the competition.
Tyrone played in the Dr McKenna Cup in January 2024. This competition has a group stage with three teams in three leagues. The best team goes through from each group, and so does the best second-place club overall. Tyrone was in a group against Donegal and Armagh, which was a tough draw. However, they exited the tournament after two games without a single point. They put up a fight in both matches, losing 1-10 to 0-15 at the hands of Donegal. Followed by a 1-14 to 2-10 loss to Armagh.
It is Roscommon that enters the first week of the Allianz FL with the advantage. While they won’t have the support of a home crowd, they won the FBD league and were victorious in the most recent fixture between the clubs. While anything can happen in Gaelic Football, Tyrone will need all the support they can get to hold off a high-flying Roscommon.

Interestingly, the bookies see a clear favourite in this match between Tyrone and Roscommon. The home side is the bookies’ choice with odds of 8/15 for a match win by any score. A €20 wager on this market will return €30.67 if Tyrone can get revenge on Roscommon. Betting on the away side in this match has odds of 2/1, which is high considering their recent results. Placing the same value wager on Roscommon yields €60 if they can defeat Tyrone.

In the game that took place on January 29, 2024, both teams scored at least one goal. Roscommon were the more dangerous, and they found the back of the net on three occasions.
