Southampton vs Wrexham Predictions – 12:30 pm, 09/08

Prediction: Southampton to win

This is the second of two ‘promoted vs relegated’ fixtures this weekend, with Birmingham and Ipswich kicking the season off on Friday night. Highly-rated young manager, Will Still, takes charge of his first competitive game in England for the Saints. Wrexham’s millions have brought them to the Championship for the first time in their history.

One of our best soccer predictions this week is for Southampton to bring the Robins back down to earth with a victory on opening weekend. Wrexham are still doing business, and their squad is not the finished product. Southampton held onto several key players with Premier League experience and did some good business in the window. They should kickstart their campaign back towards the Premier League with a win at St. Mary’s.

Southampton vs Wrexham Betting Tips

Best Bet: Southampton to win (8/11)

This is an excellent bet to place into an accumulator. Southampton have a far more experienced and talented squad. Phil Parkinson has a poor record in the Championship, and while Will Still has no previous experience in England, his time in Ligue 1 was extremely impressive. This should be a straightforward win for the Saints. We like a bet on Southampton to win, worth 8/11.

Norwich vs Millwall Predictions – 3:00 pm, 09/08

Result: Norwich to win

Norwich means business this summer. The Canaries hired Liam Manning as their new head coach following his play-off season with Bristol City, before entering the transfer market. They lost key player Borja Sainz, but have responded by bringing in 11 players with that money.

Norwich should be in or around the play-offs next season, while Millwall will probably be looking at a mid-table finish. Their squad is strong, but not to the level of the Canaries’. Manning should start his Norwich career with a victory at Carrow Road.

Norwich vs Millwall Betting Tips

Best Bet: Norwich to win (21/20)

This is another good bet to add to an accumulator. The Canaries have done some excellent business over the summer, and Manning comes in riding a wave of momentum. Millwall are a strong side, but Manning masterminded victories against Alex Neill’s side in both of Bristol City’s fixtures last season. Back Norwich to win this game, worth 21/20 with our online sportsbook.

Oxford United vs Portsmouth Predictions – 3:00 pm, 09/08

Prediction: Portsmouth to win

This is a tricky opener for Oxford. They’ve been solid at home in recent seasons and are organised in midfield, but Portsmouth arrive with cohesion and a clear attacking identity. Pompey likes to press proactively, force turnovers high up the pitch, and punish teams on the break.

That is exactly the sort of game that can expose a newly reconstructed back line. Oxford will try to keep things tight, control possession and probe, but Portsmouth’s tempo and finishing in the box give them the edge. If Pompey can win the second balls and make their transitions count, they should take the three points.

Oxford United vs Portsmouth Betting Tips

Best Bet: Both teams to score (3/4)

Both sides like to commit numbers forward and have shown they can create chances. Oxford will probe and take the initiative at times, while Portsmouth are comfortable leaving space behind to attack. Expect chances at both ends. This bet has come in seven of the last eight times these teams have met since 2022. If you want to go for a positive odds bet, a bet on Portsmouth to win is worth 7/4.

Middlesbrough vs Swansea Predictions – 3:00 pm, 09/08

Prediction: Middlesbrough to win

Middlesbrough begin life under Rob Edwards on Saturday following Michael Carrick’s exit. The transfer window has not been a busy one for Boro, but they already have a strong team. They are built to control the middle third. Edwards likes to press intelligently, play through a robust spine and punish teams that leave gaps between midfield and defence.

Swansea possesses quality in the final third and can carve openings, but their defensive shape away from home can be inconsistent. At the Riverside, Boro’s work rate and ability to win duels should tell. If Middlesbrough win the midfield battle and feed runners into the box, Swansea will be on the back foot. The home crowd should help Boro maintain the intensity for a full 90 minutes.

Middlesbrough vs Swansea Betting Tips

Boro are comfortable dominating possession at home, using quick passing patterns to open up defences. They’ve kept a strong spine and added depth, which should allow them to control the flow of this game. Swansea are tactically disciplined, but their defensive record on the road last season leaves room for concern, especially against teams who stretch play.

The Riverside crowd can make a difference in tight matches, and Boro’s extra cutting edge in the final third tips the scales. At evens, the home win feels like a high-confidence pick for anyone betting on soccer, suitable for both singles and accumulators.

West Brom vs Blackburn Predictions – 3:00 pm, 09/08

Prediction: West Brom to win

West Brom tend to set up with a disciplined defensive shape and rely on efficient transition play. They are at their best when controlling tempo, forcing turnovers and then exploiting wide areas. Blackburn can be dangerous going forward, but they have shown away-day inconsistency.

At The Hawthorns, the Baggies should be able to keep Blackburn’s attacking threats in check and nick a narrow win. Expect West Brom to be organised, win set-piece battles and make life difficult for Blackburn’s creative outlets. Rovers will try to press and create quick vertical moments, but if they become stretched, West Brom can punish with long diagonals and second-phase pressure.

West Brom vs Blackburn Betting Tips

The Hawthorns have been a fortress for West Brom. They press intelligently, force errors, and transition into attack with pace, particularly in wide areas. Blackburn has attacking quality but can be erratic away from home, struggling to break down compact defensive units. West Brom’s ability to turn set-pieces into goals is another reason to fancy them here. At 5/6, this represents good value for a home side with realistic play-off ambitions.

Sheffield United vs Bristol City Predictions – 5:30 pm, 09/08

Prediction: Sheffield United to win

Sheffield United have the squad depth and physical presence to dominate Championship fixtures at Bramall Lane. They attack through width and set-pieces and usually impose a high level of intensity. Bristol City bring creativity and pace but have been inconsistent away from home; that inconsistency could be costly against a side built to control matches.

The Blades will aim to press aggressively, win the second ball and make their strikers the focal point for crosses and knockdowns. Bristol City will look to probe with quick interchanges and try to isolate full-backs, but if they fall behind, they often become predictable. Expect Sheffield United to edge this one in front of a lively home crowd.

Sheffield United vs Bristol City Betting Tips

Best Bet: Sheffield United to win (1/1)

Bramall Lane is a difficult place to visit, and Sheffield United have the squad depth and physical profile to ease past Bristol City. They attack via width and set-pieces and generally impose their game in front of home fans. Bristol City have quality but often lacks consistency on the road. That inconsistency could be exposed.

The Blades know the length of a soccer match, as proven by their penchant for scoring late goals last season. That keeps them as an attacking threat for 90 minutes. New Robins manager Gerhard Struber is highly rated, but untested in England. At 1/1, a fixture like this can have a big impact on your opening day accumulator
